Bill Pador > I figured I would do a follow up to my tulip shot yesterday with another one in abstract form since i had some nice sunlight hitting my flower bed a little while ago that cast a shadow on the inside of the flower, so here it is. Thanks for the comments on yesterday shot, I really liked the results of that shot & it's one of my favorite flower shots this year so far.

I promised a quick review of the SB-900's performance during Saturdays Sweet 16 shoot. Well I'm happy to say it performed GREAT with only 1 small exception that i feel I should report. During the candle lighting ceremony I managed to over heat the unit to where it shut itself down as designed for almost 5 min. I was shooting FULL power shots from about 15' away from the birthday girl as she spoke & lit candles. During this time i was shooting approx. 1 shot every 5 seconds or so with a total of 40+ frames without taking a break, then it happened! The flash wouldn't fire and I saw the temperature gauge was MAXED out. So in the middle of her readings I had to run into the next room, grab my SB-600 from my gear bag and run back so I wouldn't miss anything. It took a good 5 min. before it was cool enough to fire again but after that it was fine. It was my own fault pushing the flash that hard and I have no doubt my SB-600 would have quit long before the 900 did but I was trying to see just how far I could push it, I got my answer LOL.

Other then that it performed, great, I was blasting shot after shot of folks on the dance floor and thought it would over heat but it didn't. I was able to grab some really interesting & artistic shots with it using the bounce card & included dome. Also the batteries lasted a lot longer then I thought they would, I took a good 500+ frames before changing them and still had plenty of juice in the original set but wanted fresh so I wouldn't have extended refresh times during the event to be on the safe side. So all in all it was Fantastic in the field and I was very happy with the results of the artistic capabilities it gives you !

Bill Pador > Hello All, The weather here has been pretty crappy the past 2 days causing me some discomfort but more importantly keeping me inside with not much to do. So I started playing around with some macro work around the house and decided to pull out a feather and play with light & textures abstracts. This was created with a single SB-600 flash off camera to the left @ 1/30 power and a few small home made tin foil reflectors high & low to create the dark & light areas. Then I converted to B&W and added some framing work to create an artistic piece out of this single feather.

Here's some INTERESTING Data - I just found a really cool & FREE "EXIF" Reader called "OPANDA" which also lists your TOTAL # of Shutter Releases in the EXIT Data, My D300 as of today has "81,987" Presses of the Shutter since 11/07 - Quick calculations put that at me taking an average of 169 photos a day 7 days a week for the last approx. 515 days ! If you'd like OPANDA you can get it HERE (Very Small 2.5mb & FREE D/L):
http://www.opanda.com/en/iexif/download.htm
PS: EASY TO USE . . Open the program, then OPEN a .jpg image taken with your camera (The .jpg file you read must be UNEDITED to read all the data !) You will see all the EXIF Data in the block below, scroll down about 3/4 way to the bottomr to see the TOTAL SHUTTER RELEASES - *(ART is DOES Work on Canon, you might be doing something wrong) Email me if you can't see it! I don't know if this works will all Brands / Models of cameras but it works on Nikon / Canon for sure ! ENJOY !

Hope your all having a wonderful weekend

Bill Pador > Hi guys, sorry for being MIA for a few days, I've been pretty ill with my back as usual and not feeling like doing much of anything and really apologize for being late on my comments. I don't like getting behind like this but I've just not had the energy to do any of my own work let alone sitting in a chair for any length of time. It's been a pretty rough 3 days for me but I'm on the upswing now and hoping that I will be feeling more of myself tomorrow. I've also been dealing with a death in the family, my Dad's very close cousin who was a priest and a VERY nice man passed away yesterday from a long illness which has also put some additional stress on me for my Dad who is quite upset. Just not a good few days but I guess we all have these things to deal with and I'm trying to get myself back in the saddle again. The weather here is getting Spring Like in the 50's and 60 tomorrow which will put a happy feeling in my soul. Thanks for your understanding guys I really appreciate your support !

Bill Pador > I finally found some colored straws and was playing around with them for a bit. My Sweet 16 shoot went well on Friday night, some very nice people and a very well behaved bunch of kids. It always amazes me how well behaved the youngsters are at these parties and the amount of fun they have. The venue was a beautiful place with lots of great huge chandeliers and imported marble floors & walls. So it turned out to be a really fun job and the parents were very nice people. I was so glad I was able to take the job on 2 days notice for them, it's not very often I have an open slot on the schedule with that little bit of notice.

Oh Almost forgot - Today is one ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY as part of the Dailies and it's been a WONDEFUL year, the friends I have met doing this project has been nothing short of a miracle, so THNKA YOU ALL for your Gracious Support & Wonderful Friendship ! I look forward to many more years doing this ! CHEERS MATES !

Have a great weekend or what's left to it folks...

This is DAWN dish soap in a semi frozen state in the bottle. It gave off SNOW FLAKE like shapes floating in the bottle that I found very interesting to look at. For this capture I used a very slow shutter speed 1/25 & low ISO of 500 @ f/13 using a Tamron 90mm f/2.8 Macro lens mounted on a tripod. I used a Nikon SB-600 flash HAND HELD manually dialed in to 1/4 power and held it BEHIND the bottle of soap while TOUCHING the bottle with it to back light the liquid in the bottle. This was the result along with 2 other images you see in this gallery.

Thanks for looking and if you have any questions about the post production on how I set the shot up please feel free to email me billpador@gmail.com !

Bill Pador > "Soap Bubble Fun"
Thanks for all the wonderful comments on yesterdays FEATHER image, I really liked the way it turned out with the soft edge smokey framing I managed to create with the earth tone brownish / gold (one of my favorite image colors that goes GREAT with sky blue). It was a really fun image to capture & create and I'm glad you all liked it so much, that made me very happy to say the least !

This abstract is from a bottle of 'Dawn' dish soap. I ran out of dish soap in the kitchen and remembered that i had this full bottle of Dawn in the garage that i use to wash off any road grime I pick up on my car during the summer months.
Anyway this bottle of soap was almost FROZEN because of the cold temps here and it carried some wild SNOW flake like shapes suspended in the liquid (look under the bubbles) I guess it's a chemical reaction to the cold but it was really cool and had to be photographed. You can see the the other (3) soap abstracts in my EXTRAS Gallery HERE if your interested

"COMING SOON" A lot of you have suggested that I should try teaching photography courses and I have been thinking about it a lot and have decided to try something. I'm going to TRY and create some short VIDEO'S on how to do certain techniques that I'm fond of & posting them in a learning gallery and see how it works. I have a really good Sony HD Digital Video Camera I paid a lot of money for and should put it to use, so once I figure out how to edit my own videos I'll start making some HOW TO'S to share with all of you. Because of your encouragement I have also decided to offer some private IN HOME basic photography classes in my local area to try and pick up some extra money and share my knowledge to those who want to learn our passion. Thanks for all the ENCOURAGEMENT to teach you have given me, without it there is no way I would have ever thought of teaching, I think it should be a lot of fun for me too !

Have a great Sunday everyone, me I'm going to TRY to go hiking to relax and see if I can find anything interesting in the mountains to capture. Hopefully I'll come out with some good shots for the day.

Best Regards,
~Bill~
