I figured I would do a follow up to my tulip shot yesterday with another one in abstract form since i had some nice sunlight hitting my flower bed a little while ago that cast a shadow on the inside of the flower, so here it is. Thanks for the comments on yesterday shot, I really liked the results of that shot & it's one of my favorite flower shots this year so far.
I promised a quick review of the SB-900's performance during Saturdays Sweet 16 shoot. Well I'm happy to say it performed GREAT with only 1 small exception that i feel I should report. During the candle lighting ceremony I managed to over heat the unit to where it shut itself down as designed for almost 5 min. I was shooting FULL power shots from about 15' away from the birthday girl as she spoke & lit candles. During this time i was shooting approx. 1 shot every 5 seconds or so with a total of 40 frames without taking a break, then it happened! The flash wouldn't fire and I saw the temperature gauge was MAXED out. So in the middle of her readings I had to run into the next room, grab my SB-600 from my gear bag and run back so I wouldn't miss anything. It took a good 5 min. before it was cool enough to fire again but after that it was fine. It was my own fault pushing the flash that hard and I have no doubt my SB-600 would have quit long before the 900 did but I was trying to see just how far I could push it, I got my answer LOL.
Other then that it performed, great, I was blasting shot after shot of folks on the dance floor and thought it would over heat but it didn't. I was able to grab some really interesting & artistic shots with it using the bounce card & included dome. Also the batteries lasted a lot longer then I thought they would, I took a good 500 frames before changing them and still had plenty of juice in the original set but wanted fresh so I wouldn't have extended refresh times during the event to be on the safe side. So all in all it was Fantastic in the field and I was very happy with the results of the artistic capabilities it gives you !
