Bill Pador > "Looking Up To The Heavens"

 The Looking Up Challenge...02/16/09
The Challenge: Show us your interpretation of "Looking Up."
The Participants: Kre8ive, John (300m), The Curious Camel, Karina, Creative Deviance, Lady Kate, Johnloguk, MSpencer, Trevlan, FotoEffects, Hillary, and myself.
The Result: As soon as the theme of Looking Up came to light I knew exactly what I wanted to use for this. Since I was very busy this week with client shoots and spending countless hours in the digital dark room I chose to use this shot that I felt deserved to be viewed because of it's bold look. This church was processed as a single frame HDR, using Photomatix to process the original image, then tone mapped. It was then brought into CS3 where I began to Dodge & Burn certain areas to bring out the contrast, boost color & adjust curves. Although I'm not a very religious man, the final piece gave me an over whelming feeling of looking up into the heavens with a peaceful relaxation and I especially enjoyed the lens flare glowing on the cross on the front of the building. Hope you all have a wonderful week and remember to stop along the way to look to the heavens to make all your dreams come true.

Best Regards,

Bill Pador > I was on a landscape shoot yesterday driving around town looking for new things to capture when I passed this old church that I've seen many times and stopped to shoot it out the car window. This image was actually shot in "Broad Daylight" and then brought into LightRoom 2 for some magic.

I took the exposure down, brought up the blacks and applied some custom filters I've developed to get it down to a night scene. Then I used the new brush tool (which is very cool BTW) and painted over the areas I wanted to bring the exposure back up on. Selecting the church itself and then the wiggle pattern of snow in front of the walk way. Then touching a small amount of snow on the mountain in the background to give it some depth. Then I dropped in to CS3 and used the NIK Color Efexs Pro WHITE NEUTRALIZER to isolate the white of the building & snow to give it a more balanced color & tone along with making the snow cold with a blue hue. Finished off with a Key Line frame.

I have a bunch of other shots I took yesterday that turned out good and so many others I've taken this winter that I'll post in a new 'Winter Landscape '09 Gallery' that I'm making now, I'll announce when it's up and ready to be viewed.

**PS: Thanks for the comments on yesterdays abstract & smug problems. I still can't get my cookies to work, hopefully they'll fix that soon :(

***Some Good News*** I was contacted yesterday by the local High School who are interested in me shooting their Junior Classes Semi-Formal event & portrait session in May. I have to put a bid in for Monday & hopefully I'll win the contract. That would be a great gig to do, I enjoy doing those kinds of events and doing all those portraits would be awesome. Keep your fingures crossed for me ;) I already have the contract for their annual Fashion Show which is in 2 weeks for the 2nd year in a row!

Bill Pador > "The Haunted House"
I've been driving by this eerie old barn / storage facility for many years now and was finally able to get a shot of it. I love the texture of the old shingles and roof. The problem was that it's located on a busy street where there is no where to pull off to shoot it. So I took matters into my own hands and shot it while DRIVING ! Yes I know it's not safe but I was slowed to about 10mph, stuck the D300 out the window and fired 2 frames, both of which were centered nicely. I had to rotate it slightly and also remove the ugly For Sale sign that was in the middle of the shot though, Any Takers? LOL. Then I used a custom setting I made in NIK Silver Efex Pro to give it a B&W/Sepia look and brought out the textures a bit.

The weather here in NJ is COLD COLD just bitterly COLD! Present temperature is 8' with a wind chill of -4'F and let me tell you this is the WARMEST it's supposed to be this week. Temps are due to drop into the -15' to -20'F with the wind chill in the next 4 days and their waning folks to stay inside as frost bite can be had in less the 15 min. on uncovered skin. I guess I'll be firing up the fire place and staying inside with the still life studio for a while LOL.

PS: Oh BTW Voting for my Contest Image will be starting sometime TODAY or TOMORROW latest as I've been told, I'll post as soon as the images are available for voting - Thanks to all who took the time to register & post 5 times to help me out at www.photographycorner.com !
Stay warm folks and enjoy your Hump Day !

Bill Pador > "The River Flows"
On my way home from an appt. today I stopped at one of my favorite fishing spots on the Rockaway River in my town to grab this capture. Too bad I didn't have a set of waders in my car to get the little water fall that is located just below this scene but I have to be UNDER the bridge I was on in order to get it in the frame LOL. So you'll have to settle for this one.

I love the little water flow control house that is dilapidated here, it adds a nice rigid feel to the scene. I've watched the roof continue to collapse over the years and soon it will just fall in completely. This is one of the best trout spots around here and they stock the river just upstream weekly during trout season from the farm with tags on them so you know if you caught a wild or farm bread fish. The mountain you see in the background is part of the Picatinny Arsenal where they develop & test new weapons for the military.

Anyway, it was an overcast day here as you can see and it really brought some nice contrast into the picture that I liked. I had to make slight levels adjustments to bring the clouds out a bit more and then some selective dodging & burning to the shadow areas but not much more to this one. Oh and a slight filter applied to bring the colors up a bit since it was so dark here. 10 min. of work and it was finished. So I hope you enjoy this next addition to my fall colors month - I hope you all have a fantastic weekend and get out there to enjoy the crisp clean fall air ;)

Bill Pador > "Halloween Is Coming"
I shot this building last night because of the eerie feel it had with the moon over the right corner along with the lines & shapes the rail and house had in it. It was shot by laying the camera down on a guardrail and hand holding it for 3 seconds, then I processed it using Topaz Labs Adjust filter giving it the over processed look. Something different but I liked the feel it had to it with the moon and light rays coming off the front of the building lights along with the different colors it had in it.

Hope you all have a great weekend !

Bill Pador > While driving around my neighborhood for my POTD today I stopped at one of my favorite local photo holes - The STUD FARM! So while walking from one side of the field around the barn I saw this scene and figured it would make a nice capture with the hilly road fading off into the distance and really banging out some big time bokeh with a large f/stop. Well I was right LOL I have some nice horse shots which I will post 1 or 2 when I go through them in a little bit.
When I took this shot I already had in mind to do some kind of artistic piece since everyone has seen the Empire State building in print a million times so I had to make it different. This is what i finished with for my Daily today, a kind of multi colored pastel abstract that I had fun playing with. This was shot across the Hudson River from Weehawkin NJ

Hope everyone is having a great day !
