9-16-09 - - - I went back into NY City yesterday to make ANOTHER run at B&H Photo and dropped another $500 picking up a set of Pocket Wizard Plus II's, a Hot Shoe adapter for my old SB-600, The Pocket Wizard Wireless Module for my new Sekonic L-358 Light Meter so I can trigger my flash units with the L-358 with no wires and working alone, A 'JUSTIN Clamp' and a portable Umbrella tri-pod mount Adaptor. Boy it's not hard to spend $1000 in B&H LOL.
For those of you who have SB-600 & SB-800,900 combinations and want to learn how to trigger them all using just *2* pocket Wizards & an cheap adapter, I'll be writing an article in my blog soon explaining how to accomplish this since I looked all over the internet for this solution but couldn't find it but I figured it out on my own !

I took this shot while stuck in bumper to bumper traffic shooting it from my drivers seat out of the sun roof ;) I love the sky, reflections in the glass and the building lines & detail. I managed to get a great exposure on the sky which was pretty bright but beautiful. (Best Viewed Large)

* I also made my annual visit to the Bronx Zoo yesterday for my fall "Wild Animal" gallery but I have over 1000 images to go through so I'll be posting them in a gallery sometime next week and will post when their up & ready for viewing ! I got some great shots of the Silver Back Gorilla's again along with a bunch of other goodies including Lions, Giraffes, Birds, Monkey's & Huge Rack Deer from China !

Happy Hump Day Everyone !

Bill Pador > 8-30-09 / Here's another HDR shot I did at the Bridge Lake concentrating on the far shore this time with the fountain in it. Again the storm clouds rolling in and some nice deep rich colors, great reflections and sharp focus from the Tamron lens and the sun from my back. Shot as a (3) frame -1_0_+1 exposure, combined as a HDR and tone mapped in Photomatix Pro 3. * Best Viewed Large)

I'll certainly be visiting this spot in the fall when the colors change, should look awesome !

Bill Pador > 8/26/09 - Hi Everyone, I finally got out into the field to run the NEW Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 Di II XR Lens through it's paces. Needless to say after reading all the fantastic reviews and Editors Choice Awards this lens was winning I was excited to add this fine piece of glass to my collection. So here's a great shot I grabbed with it. I was out driving around up in the mountains by my home, it started off sunny but partly cloudy but the light was great even during mid afternoon. As I drove around I spotted this lake with cool walk bridges scattered around it. I shot this hand held from one of the bridges as a huge storm was coming in from the south east being pushed into the area while the violent hurricane "Bill" (how cool) was off our shores turning up the seas with a 16'-18' storm surge.
~ ~ "BEST VIEWED LARGE or X-LARGE" for best detail ~ ~

So I got out of the car and started grabbing shots of the incoming storm in the distance while having the sun shining from my back onto the tree line making it glow. This lens is SUPER SHARP, Auto Focus is blazing fast and spot on even in low light and the colors & detail it produces are amazing, all for a mear $449 Shipped to my door from B&H Photo.

I'll be posting more shots taken with this lens in the following days so be sure to check them out, they all turned out pretty awesome IMO. I'll be writing a full review on the lens in my blog some time next week and will post a note when it's finished for any one interested in buying this fantastic wide angle f/2.8 glass.

I also just purchased the Brand New 'HONL PHOTO" Professional Series Flash Accessory System (Light Modifiers) www.expoimaging.net that has been getting great reviews from Pros the world over and will be writing a review on them as well. I bought every piece in the system all at once so I'll be able to test it all out properly. Some really cool stuff to say the least !

Hope your all doing well and having a great week

Best Regards,
~Bill~
Bill Pador > This sky presented itself while driving west on RT.# 80 last night into the sunset. So I stuck the camera up on the steering wheel and fired off a few frames to capture this.

Bill Pador > Happy Hump Day Everyone, Sorry I've been MIA for a few days, i just haven't been feeling well and needed a few days rest but I'm up & around again for the exception of still being really tired so I fired up a hot cup of coffee so I can sit down, relax and visit some of your dailies so I can catch up on my back log. The weather here has been, well simply put Awful! Raining for the lat 4 days with 2-3 more days like it still on tap, chilly, damp and dark. So looks like the next few days dailies will be still life projects, that's once I figure out what I want to shoot LOL

I hope you all have been having a good week, personally I'm looking forward to some better weather so I can get myself over to the Bronx and visit the Zoo for some Gorilla shots. I've been excited to visit the Bronx Zoo since last fall when I went. Hopefully I'll get some better conditions this time around with more sun & better lighting for the colorful bird shots. The Gorilla exhibit is what I'm looking forward to most though, they were one of the most incredible & fascinating animals to watch & photograph I've experienced in my entire career. I could sit & watch them for hours.

I took this shot from my front porch, the image really doesn't even do the sky justice as it looked in person was even more vivid & moody.

Enjoy your day folks, it's great to be back from my 4 day Missing In Action Tour, even my Mom was worried about my lack of posts LOL - So this is for you Mom ;)

Bill Pador > "Dramatic Morning Sky - Nikon SB-900 Mini Review Below"
*(long but informative & entertaining)*
Happy Saturday morning Daily Members ! I've been up all night playing & learning about my new toy, the "MIGHTY Nikon SB-900 Flash Gun" ! ! ! Yes folks it has arrived as promised from B&H photo yesterday afternoon. I haven't been able to do anything else since 5pm Friday then to play with this ultimate piece of gear. I can't remember in recent memory a piece of gear I've bought that has stirred so much excitement in my body then this. It is absolutely without a doubt hands down "THE BEST" flash gun I have ever used, PERIOD ! ! ! I won't go into a full detailed review here since I'll save that for my blog entry next week but I will hit some of the most interesting & exciting points real quick to wet your appetite. (Nikon shooters read on, Others - Sorry you can't have this masterpiece :)

1st, the build quality is FANTASTIC ! Solid as a mule and as big as one too LOL Yes it's no lie that the reviews you might have read previously that this thing is a MONSTER in size, BUT With size comes POWER and LOTS of it ! Not only did Nikon improve on recycle time using only 4 batteries vs. the 5th on the SB800 but it recycles in the blink of an eye and I was able to take 20 rapid fire continuous frames at 6fps with NO light fall off or change in exposure according to the histogram & viewing, WOW !!! I know the question is, "Did it OVERHEAT like they say it does"? The answer is NO, That's been fixed with the Firmware upgrade they put out (Ver. 5.02 available on Nikon's web site - Which BTW was VERY easy to install, just like upgrading your camera firmware, same exact steps, took 3 min.) This flash is so simple to use I was up & running without opening the book in 5 min. (then I read the book LOL)

It comes with a nice diffuser dome, a really neat coded pack of gels that tell the camera to adjust the WB automatically (really neat) and a stand. One of the things I disliked right off the bat was the stand they provide is only a 1 way vs. the 3 way provided with the SB600 & 800 (which you can use with the 900 anyway if you still have it). The 360' rotating head is a God Send and makes keeping the Light Sensor window for remote wireless iTTL shooting a snap (nice touch Nikon!)

To finish off my mini review I have to say that every shot I took around the house the exposure was SPOT ON no matter what lighting situation I put it in. The #1 KUDO goes to the new Control Design & Software to get around the feature pack (which is HUGE BTW). Setting up Remote shooting takes mere seconds unlike the 600-800 now it's a push of a SINGLE BUTTON or SPIN OF THE SELECTOR DIAL ** BAMMMM ** your done !
The LCD panel is laid out perfectly and every piece of information you need is right in front of you, one of the really cool features is a MY MENU addition to set up your favorite or most used features in your own menu just like the D300-700-D3 etc. so you can access your features 1,2,3 ! *AWESOME Nikon* !

OK I wet your appetite enough for a daily posting, I'll let you know when my FULL review is finished & posted in my blog next week, but for any of you in the market for a new Nikon Flash I'll say this - IMO this is bar far the BEST piece of equipment to pair with your DSLR for the ultimate in "ON or OFF CAMERA" flash photography with limitless possibilities and worth EVERY PENNY - * * * All 44,999 of them LOL * * * So if you were on the fence about this flash, don't be just jump off, plop your money down and get this Bad Boy, it's THAT GOOD FOLKS ! ! My clients are going to benefit greatly from this one big time.

*If you have any questions on your mind, please feel free to either post them here or email me I'll be happy to answer them for tomorrow's post.

PS: Oh this shot was taken a few hours ago when I walked outside to see this wild sky & weather conditions to get my floating news paper !

Have a Great Weekend, I'm gonna play with my new toy LOL
~Bill~
Bill Pador > Well I went with another Seagull shot today this time in flight & in color. Just having fun with my winter friends so why not right ! One thing i like about seagulls is their so used to being around humans you can get quite close to them without them being spooked so they offer excellent close ups. I'm still working on a batch I took of them so I would expect 1 or 2 more at least in my Extras gallery LOL.

Thanks for all the well wishes, I'm still having a bit of discomfort and really have only slept about 4 hours since Monday night. The rainy weather is supposed to pull out so that will help a bunch. So in the mean time I will just play with my Blackberry 'STORM' some more since I'm getting the hang of it now and making use of it's features, what a really cool piece of electronics folks, i HIGHLY recommend getting one if your in the market. Hands down the BEST phone I've ever owned especially if you run a business or studio of your own ! I even figured out a way to put all my blank studio contracts and model releases on it so they can be emailed right from my phone to a client in seconds, Pretty Cool indeed . . .

I'll try to catch up on my comments today, I'm sorry I got 2 days behind but I'm trying guys ;)

~Bill~
Bill Pador > Good Afternoon everyone, I shot this sky because of the blue color it had just prior to sunset and liked the tree silhouettes, it just had me staring into the sky for some reason and praying for spring to come SOON. Hoping you all have a wonderful day and may all your dreams come true !

Best Regards,
~Bill~
Bill Pador > "Deep Orange Glow"
I shot this from my front porch During an approaching storm the other night the sun started going down and the colors were bleeding through the storm clouds creating an awesome sky. I shot a hand held 3 frame bracket -1, 0, +1 then brought it into Photomatix to create an HDR, Tone Mapped it and then into CS3 where I adjusted Levels, Curves, Contrast. Then into NIK Color Efex to boost Pro contrast and then finished it off with Imagenomic Noiseware and keyline frame. I just wish I would have grabbed my tripod to make things easier in blending mode but it came out pretty good for hand held anyway.

The Smiling Joe Project is coming along nicely, I've been busy putting together all the logistics of the plan and should be sending out another email to everyone in the next few days with more updates and how this will work for everyone. Don't worry, it's a simple process for you all and nothing but fun involved, it's me who is tearing his hair out right now LOL Not really it's not that bad, just a lot of paper work (which I hate) but once it's all done it will run like clock work (I hope LOL) IN the mean time I've been able to recruit 2 more countries, India & Australia to his overseas adventure. So as of now he will be traveling to "7" different countries on 4 different continents, not bad ! Thanks for every one's participation, I'm VERY excited about the whole thing.

Have a Great Evening Everyone,
~Bill~
